Hi! I'm Ben, a versatile game designer with a burning hunger to make video games!
Making games isn't just my profession, or my passion.. it's an important part of my life.

Over the last 3 years I have started 2 indie studios: Bywonics, a small family business, where I was able to release my first title; and Oppolyon where I am currently developing 'Ascending Inferno' as the technical lead on a small team.
Alongside this, I am also a graduate of the AIE, with an Advanced Diploma of Game Design and Production.

On the rare chance you might find me not developing a game, I'm also an Assistant Game Programming Trainer at the AIE, where I've had the opportunity to run certificate courses and holiday programs!

I have a strong focus in technical design, and love prototyping all of my game mechanics. My passion is in designing & prototyping modular game systems that allow the player the opportunity to get creative.

A 2-4 player chaotic couch party game. Take on the role of genius mice engineers as you compete to make the best battle bot & smash it out in the arena!

I worked on this project as part of a team of students for my 16 week major production of Dec 2023.

My roles on the project included:
- Technical & System designer on the project.
- Responsible for designing core gameplay mechanics & developing battle bot components.
- Creating power curves in excel for use in balancing.
- Responsible for the 'juice' and making sure the game provided enough feedback to the player.
- Programming many of the battlebot components

Ascending Inferno

A tricky precision platformer with a simple objective: can you kick your brothers soul out of hell?

I worked on this as part of an indie team that I co-founded in June 2022. Since then, this project has been selected by a panel of judges to showcase at PAX Aus, & SXSW Sydney. We have also released a demo on steam & attracted a small following!

My roles on the project included:
- Solo programmer on the project working in blueprint and C++.
- Lead system designer working on character controls & meta game systems.
- Held numerous playtesting sessions with the public for use in balance & UX.

Against All Odds

A first person survival game based upon shooting, looting & crafting.

I worked on this solo project for 6 weeks with the goal of developing and balancing a looting & crafting system.

- Designed & Prototyped AI zombies.
- Designed & prototyped looting, inventory, and crafting systems.
- Maintained documentation and spreadsheets for game design & balancing.
- Held playtesting sessions for balancing game difficulty.
